The Romps of Bognor: Howard Romp, Pauline Farrington, Oscar Romp

John Rank, Wilson and Reception Galleries

Oxmarket Contemporary are proud to hold a major exhibition of three artists from the same family, The Romps of Bognor. Represented in the exhibition are Howard Romp (b .1939), Pauline Farrington (b. 1940) and, their son, Oscar Romp (b. 1963).

Howard and Pauline (who both studied at Camberwell School of Art in the late 1950s) worked in various arts education roles and chose not to engage with the commercial art world. This did not in any way diminish their ambitions for their work and both have completed museum-quality paintings, drawings and assemblages over more than 6 decades. Oscar studied at the Royal College of Art and has had a successful career completing major mural commissions for hospitals and other care environments. Whilst having held a number of commercial shows (most often in Europe), much of his work has not been seen by the wider public.

The exhibition will present each artist in a gallery of their own allowing the scope of their individual creativity to be fully expressed. The visitor is invited to ‘join the dots’ across their work as their work often relates to each other. Paintings, drawings, soft pastel drawings, prints and collage will all be represented.

For the first time, all works by the three artists will be for sale. Purchases not only support the artists but help to fund Oxmarket Contemporary, a charity est. 1976, to support more artists in the future.

The exhibition is accompanied by a hardback book covering the work of each artist, with an essay by Gallery Director, Andrew Churchill. Order your copy here.
