Objects, Places, Spaces: Andie Armstrong, Caroline Darke & Carol Wagstaff

Wilson Gallery

Artist friends Caroline Darke, Andie Armstrong and Carol Wagstaff have once again collaborated to present an exciting eclectic mix of new painting, prints and sculpture.

Carol’s work is inspired by a recent residency at ‘The Art House’ in Aldeburgh Suffolk where she immersed herself in observing the elements of the east coast; the sometimes challenging winds the power of the north sea and reality of coastal erosion, and the rare plant life that survives despite the forces of nature. These elements are channeled into her multi media works.

Caroline’s latest work is informed by the seascape off the coast of Cornwall, a place she frequently visits and a constant inspiration for many of her works. This year she has dedicated time to explore the power of colour values by using a limited palette of different blue and yellow mediums to describe the multiple hues of the ocean; the resulting subtle abstracted images in mixed media convey the turbulent nature of the Atlantic ocean; poetic snapshots of a wild and rugged place.

Andie, will be presenting some of her perfectly executed expressive sculptures, alongside some new vibrant colourful paintings inspired by a recent trip to the picturesque town of Josselin, in Brittany, France; Jossselin a small medieval town full of character is set on the banks of the River Oust. It was here that Andie found inspiration to create her lively artworks informed by the landscape and architecture of this French town.
