Lynne Woods

Wilson Gallery

Lynne refers to herself as an intuitive contemporary artist. Although she now lives in the beautiful Cotswolds, she is a Sussex girl at heart having been born and brought up in Fishbourne and attended Chichester High School for Girls. Despite always being interested in art Lynne only began to explore her own artistic skills once her daughters were grown up and leaving home. On joining a local drawing class in Stroud she found that she had a natural talent for drawing and, perhaps more importantly, composition. Each drawing was based on still life but because of the composition, the drawings began to have a very surreal feel.

In 2018 Lynne had her debut solo exhibition at the Lansdown Gallery in Stroud exhibiting 13 drawings. Unfortunately, Lynne was forced to take a break after being diagnosed with Breast Cancer, but once treatment had finished she could return to her art. Cancer is life changing and coming through it had a positive side which made her more confident as a person and also changed her outlook on to her artwork. All her drawings had been in pencil and charcoal and very detailed. Now she wanted to use colour, and to be more abstract.

This collection of work was born during the covid pandemic lockdowns. Through the use of on-line classes and hours of exploring and experimenting in her studio, her confidence grew and abstract, colourful paintings were being created. Collage was introduced and much of it she printed herself which she describes as “being immensely fun to do”. Exploring beautiful colours such as Alizarin Crimson, Phthalo Turquoise, Quinacridone Rose mixed only with black and white was so exciting and then adding a zing of lime green or cadmium orange, “it just brings a smile to your face”.

This is just the beginning, but I think you will agree, it’s a colourful one!
